The Meal: Documenting a Global Snack

One moment. One meal. One photograph. Let's eat.

On February 24th at 12pm EST, join thousands of people around the world in a simultaneous global meal. Whether it's breakfast in LA or a midnight snack in Beijing, let's take a moment from our hectic lives and share it with strangers around the world. Snap a photo of yourself and your meal and mail it to us — we'll create an exhibition from these self-portraits, documenting the world's largest communal snack.

Nothing makes us feel connected quite like sharing a meal together. On February 24th at 12pm Eastern Standard Time, thousands of strangers from around the world will sit down for a bite in unison and capture a shared experience at the exact same time. Take a photograph of yourself with your meal and mail it back to us. These simultaneous snapshots – self-portraits of people and their foods – will be exhibited in our storefront project space and made available online. Our aim is to inspire a feeling of community across geographic and cultural boundaries. So wherever you may be on February 24th at 12pm, keep your camera handy and something delicious nearby – and remember that thousands of strangers, both near and far, are sharing that meal with you.

It's free! It's fun! It's simple! Just remember to check your local time and photograph what you are eating :) Sorry I haven't posted a lot lately - more to come about my experiences with Kapka, my Grateful Daily project and other adventures in the making. Join us!

Natalie Newberry

I took these of Whitley's sister, Natalie, as part of Whitley's portrait session. When Natalie graduates, I plan on photographing her as well! Also included another fave of mine of Whitley...

Whitley Newberry Senior Portraits

I have known Whitley since she was 10 months old - it is so great to see her grow into such a beautiful, intelligent, kind and wonderful young woman. I promised her I would take her senior portraits, and even after I moved to Seattle I told her I was still going to be her photographer. So over Labor Day weekend I drove up to Kalispell and photographed her.

Whiteaker Family, Bellevue WA in August

I donated a family portrait session to each of my cousins' schools, and this is one of the lucky families who bought it! The Whiteaker family met me at Downtown Bellevue Park in the evening. We had beautiful light and the girls were a blast :)

Lindsey and Kyle 05.28.2011 Part 2

Lindsey and Kyle got married this past May in Kalispell, Montana over Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, as per tradition, it ALWAYS rains in Kalispell over that weekend- so I photographed my first rainy wedding. Everything (minus the lens malfunction the next week) went smoothly after the initial shock of downpour. Lindsey did a lot of work preparing the wedding- she created the colorful lanterns and printed out templates for everyone who attended so they could "sketch the bride and groom". Congratulations you guys!
