Greene Family August 2012

I was lucky enough in August, when I was in Montana for my sister's wedding, to visit some good friends, the Greene family, and take some photos of their kids. We had originally planned on a full family portrait session but it was SO hot that night that we just hung out, caught up on life, and I snapped photos of the kiddos while I could. Natalie has gorgeous curly hair and quickly became my buddy, hanging out on my lap on the grass. Connor was about 2 months old in these photos and such a smiley boy. Both kids look so much like Cale it is a little ridiculous :) Golden hour in Montana in the summer lasts forever and with my 50 mm it was perfect for our backyard pictures.

Kleinpeter Family Portraits

Every year I donate a family portrait session to my cousins' school, The Attic. This year I was lucky enough to photograph a family that attends the Attic preschool - the Kleinpeters! Jeanie and Tom were a blast to work with and their kids, Margo and Thomas, were adorable (as you can tell). We worked with the Seattle overcast sky and had some great even lighting. The kids were energetic and totally excited about the trains at Olympic Sculpture Park. Enjoy!

Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day projects in Photography Club we focused on emotions. We had handmade conversation hearts with emotions on them and the kids took photos of each other expressing each one. These photos turned into a cute Valentine's Day card for their parents which read, even when I'm (emotion), (emotion), (emotion)... I still love you!" Super cute, I even made one for my mom so the kids could take turns taking photos of me.

Self Portrait Class

One of my favorite subjects, as I'm sure most of my readers know by now, is self portraiture. We did a class with Kapka where the kids were required to include themselves in a photo and to create their name out of something and photograph it. Here are my photos that I used as examples.

Photography Classes

Over the past 8 months I have offered a few different photography classes to a few different groups of kids. My first adventure in teaching was with Kapka, a cooperative K-5 school where my new found friend, Marcia, teaches. I came in once a week for Create and Explore Hour and led Photography Club. Kids had the choice to join us for an hour photography class or any of the multiple activities offered at the same time. I had an average of 5 kids each class and we learned about everything from composition to portraits to photo walks and showing emotion in photos. The main message we wanted to teach is How to Tell A Story. All photography tells a story, but how? What does it say? We also wanted to portray that everyone's life is unique and different across the globe or across the city. Where do you live? What do you eat? How do you celebrate Thanksgiving? The next few posts will be Kapka posts, followed by an explanation of my other photography class at the Tintinger household.
Here's a quick collage of some of the kids I taught at Kapka

Ireland photos are posted!

After months and months of editing and procrastination, all my Ireland photos are up! In April of this year I took a two week trip around Ireland (we got a rental car) with Patrick and my best friend, Shay. You can all photos on Facebook or the select professional quality ones on my Flickr account :) More updates from my past 8 months of photography adventures to come!
